I haven't dropped my cell phone or anything, but i'll keep that in mind if the situation persists. Could it be some thing else entirely, like intervention from more electronic devices?

It's unlikely that intervention from other products would cause your phone to pulse randomly. Most contemporary day smartphones are shielded against electromagnetic interference, so it's more likely to be a application or hardware issue.
