That's an fascinating point! I consider there's undoubtedly a long-standing tradition of exploring themes of desire, passion, and even forbidden love in ballet. Take classics like swan lake or romeo and juliet for instance - they're pretty much dripping with romantic stress<sp>and sensuality. But whether it's intentional or not, i'm not totally sure.
